THE SPIRIT OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD

Isaiah 11:2–3 describes one of the sevenfold operations of the Holy Spirit resting upon the Messiah: “the Spirit of the fear of the Lord… and He shall delight in the fear of the Lord.” This fear is not terror but deep reverence, awe, and submission to God’s holiness. When this Spirit operates in a person or a nation, it produces obedience, purity, and wisdom. Scripture declares, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10), and again, “By the fear of the Lord men depart from evil” (Proverbs 16:6). Without this divine influence, societies drift into moral confusion, rebellion, and spiritual darkness.

    A vivid example of national transformation through the fear of God is found in Acts 19:17–20. When the power of God was demonstrated in Ephesus, “fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.” This holy fear led to widespread repentance. Those who practiced witchcraft and magic openly confessed their deeds and brought their books to be burned—materials worth fifty thousand pieces of silver. The result was spiritual awakening, societal cleansing, and the triumph of God’s Word: “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.” The fear of the Lord broke the grip of darkness and purified the culture.

     Today, our nations desperately need this same Spirit. Laws, campaigns, and human efforts cannot cure corruption or moral decay. Only the Spirit of the fear of the Lord can turn hearts back to righteousness. Let us therefore pray, both personally and nationally, “Unite my heart to fear Your name” (Psalm 86:11). Where the fear of the Lord is restored, wisdom returns, evil is abandoned, and God’s glory prevails.

 In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and for the spirit of the fear of the lord in our nation .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to preach the gospel.
