Good -Life Devotional: THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, NOT OF STEEL

   “Then Jesus said to him, ‘Put your sword back into its place; for all those who habitually draw the sword will die by the sword.’” — Matthew 26:52 (AMP)

    It was customary for Jews to carry a sword for self defense. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Peter’s zeal drove him to defend Jesus with a sword, but the Lord quickly rebuked him. Jesus was not against courage — He was against carnal methods of defending divine purposes - it was time for him to be crucified . His kingdom is not sustained by human violence but by truth, love, and divine authority.

   When Jesus said, “Those who take the sword will perish by the sword,” He revealed a profound spiritual principle: those who depend on human strength will ultimately be destroyed by it. If your occupation requires you carrying a weapon , your trust should be on the lord for safety. The weapons of our warfare are not physical (2 Corinthians 10:4), but spiritual — the Word of God, prayer, and righteousness. True power lies in obedience and submission to God’s will, not in force.

    Christ could have summoned legions of angels, yet He chose the path of the Cross. In 2 kings 19; 35 he executed judgement through an angel killing many . His restraint was not weakness but divine control and purpose. In our walk with God, we too must resist the urge to “fight” in the flesh — whether through anger, revenge, or manipulation. Victory in God’s kingdom comes through faith, forgiveness, and peace.

   Let us, therefore, put away the sword of fleshly reaction and take up the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). The world is changed not by violence, but by the transforming love of Christ working through hearts surrendered to His will.

 PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome temptation Lord, teach me to fight my battles Your way — with truth, mercy, and peace.
