Good -Life Devotional:

TRUE WORSHIP REQUIRES A TOTAL SURRENDER OF OUR BODIES

9/6/24

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Psalms 78:36-37

"Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.'

The Israelites taught God could be bribed with flattery praise as it is done in many African churches . They are told when praises go up blessings come down. That's far from the truth . Ephesians 1:3 says we are already blessed and 2 Peter 1:3 says we have been given all things . God does not need flattering before he can do good to us. . He gives us free air to breath , rainfall and sunshine without being flattered.

He would rather we live to please him in righteousness. That is how to please him .

True worship requires a total surrender of our bodies to God, a theme underscored throughout Scripture. This concept is vividly expressed in Romans 12:1, where Paul urges believers: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship." This verse emphasizes that worship is not merely an act but a lifestyle of devotion and sacrifice.

The idea of presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice echoes the sacrificial system of the Old Testament but with a transformative twist. Instead of offering animals, believers are called to offer themselves. This involves daily choices that honor God, reflecting a life surrendered to His will. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Paul reinforces this by reminding believers that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit: "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies."

Surrendering our bodies to God involves practical steps. It means using our physical capacities for His glory, avoiding behaviors that dishonor Him, and pursuing purity. Ephesians 5:1-2 calls us to "Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." This passage encourages believers to imitate Christ’s selfless love and sacrificial living.

True worship, therefore, is an all-encompassing act of dedication. It goes beyond singing hymns or attending church services; it involves a wholehearted commitment to live in a way that pleases God. This total surrender is the essence of true worship, demanding that every aspect of our lives reflects our devotion to Him. By offering our bodies as living sacrifices, we engage in worship that is holy and pleasing to God, fulfilling our true and proper act of worship.

Prayer : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power for righteous living .Amen
