Good -Life Devotional: WARNING AGAINST DRAWING BACK IN TO PERDITION

Drawing back into perdition, or spiritual ruin, is a serious warning addressed in the Bible. The term "perdition" refers to a state of eternal punishment and damnation into which a sinful and unrepentant person passes after death. Scripture strongly cautions against this perilous retreat from faith and righteousness.

Hebrews 10:38-39 emphasizes this warning: “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.” This passage underscores the necessity of perseverance in faith. Drawing back from faith signifies a lack of trust in God's promises and can lead to spiritual destruction.

Jesus Himself warned against turning away from the truth. In Luke 9:62, He states, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” This metaphor illustrates the importance of unwavering commitment to the Christian journey. Looking back symbolizes a divided heart and a lack of dedication, traits that are incompatible with the call to follow Christ.

Moreover, 2 Peter 2:20-21 issues a grave caution: “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.” This passage warns that returning to sinful ways after knowing Christ results in a more severe judgment.

Finally, Jude 1:5-6 recalls the fate of those who failed to remain faithful: “I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.” These examples serve as solemn reminders of the consequences of drawing back from God’s truth.

The Bible consistently warns against drawing back into perdition. Believers are called to steadfastness, holding firmly to their faith and avoiding the dangers of spiritual regression. By heeding these warnings, Christians can remain on the path of righteousness and secure their eternal salvation.

Prayer : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power for godly zeal .
