SIX FUNDAMENTAL STEPS IN NATION BUILDING

You shall eat of the good of the land and be satisfied because of the anointing of God's favour upon you .

Good -Life Devotional: SIX FUNDAMENTAL STEPS IN NATION BUILDING

By Michael Benson Ajayi

Nation building is a complex and multifaceted process, requiring strong leadership, commitment to justice, and a dedication to spiritual and moral principles. The biblical account of King Jehoshaphat of Judah provides a valuable model, illustrating five indispensable steps for effective nation building.

1. **Seek Divine Guidance**: Jehoshaphat’s reign began with a decisive turn towards God. He sought divine guidance earnestly, as seen in 2 Chronicles 17:3-4: "The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the former ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals but sought the God of his father and walked in His commandments." This underscores the importance of prioritizing spiritual alignment and moral integrity in leadership.

2. **Establish Justice and Righteousness**: Jehoshaphat focused on creating a just society. He appointed judges throughout the land, instructing them to judge fairly. "Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the Lord" (2 Chronicles 19:6). This step highlights the necessity of a fair and just legal system in nation building.

3. **Educate the People**: Understanding that a well-informed populace is crucial, Jehoshaphat sent officials, Levites, and priests to teach in the cities of Judah, spreading knowledge of the Law (2 Chronicles 17:7-9). Education fosters informed citizenship and empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully to nation building.

4. **Strengthen Defenses**: Jehoshaphat fortified Judah, enhancing its security (2 Chronicles 17:12). A strong nation requires not only moral and legal foundations but also physical security to protect its people and sovereignty.

5. **Promote Unity and Cooperation**: Jehoshaphat sought alliances and cooperation, striving for peace and unity. His efforts to build alliances, while sometimes flawed, demonstrate the importance of diplomacy and unity in maintaining a stable and prosperous nation (2 Chronicles 18:1).

Jehoshaphat’s example illustrates that nation building is an integrated effort of spiritual dedication, justice, education, security, and unity. By following these steps, leaders can lay a robust foundation for their nations.

In our daily prayers we should ask the lord for leaders driven by godly ideals and rescue us from bad leadership.

Prayer: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to preach the gospel. Amen
