THE IMPORTANCE OF FAITH IN NATION BUILDING

THE IMPORTANCE OF FAITH IN NATION BUILDING

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Ezra 5:13 "But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God."

The Jews were in captivity when by divine inspiration their slave master Cyrus made a decree to start the rebuilding of the house of God that was destroyed during the invasion. This was an act of faith by the Jews who believed in the words of prophet Jeremiah who foretold these events .

Faith plays a crucial role in nation building, serving as a  foundation for unity, strength, and guidance. The biblical account of King Jehoshaphat exemplifies how faith can fortify a nation. Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, reigned during a time of political and military turmoil. His reliance on faith and divine guidance was pivotal in his leadership and the prosperity of his nation.

Jehoshaphat's story is a testament to the power of faith in governance. One of his notable acts was seeking God's counsel before making decisions. In 2 Chronicles 20:3-4, Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast and gathered the people to seek help from the Lord. This act of collective faith and prayer unified the nation, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. The subsequent victory over their enemies, as chronicled in 2 Chronicles 20:22, demonstrates that faith can bring about miraculous outcomes and national security.

Furthermore, Jehoshaphat's commitment to religious reforms strengthened Judah’s moral and spiritual fabric. He appointed judges and emphasized the importance of following God's commandments (2 Chronicles 19:4-7). This instilled a sense of justice and righteousness among the people, crucial elements for any thriving society.

The Bible repeatedly underscores the importance of faith in national well-being. Proverbs 14:34 states, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people." Jehoshaphat’s reign is a vivid illustration of this principle. His faith-driven leadership not only brought military success but also social and spiritual rejuvenation.

Jehoshaphat’s example underscores that faith is integral to nation building. It unites, guides, and fortifies a nation, creating a foundation for enduring prosperity and righteousness.

Faith and righteousness comes from God's word and hatred for God's word results in destruction of nations . The bible says Proverbs 13:13 "Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.'

Prayer: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power for advancements. Amen
