EXCESSIVE ATTENTION SEEKING SYNDROME

The more the opposition against you the more shall be the increase in your greatness because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional: EXCESSIVE ATTENTION SEEKING SYNDROME

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Psalms 10:4 "The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts."

Proverbs 8:13 "The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate."

Excessive Attention-Seeking Syndrome can have detrimental effects, as exemplified by the biblical character Absalom. In 2 Samuel 15:1-6, Absalom's quest for attention and power led him to undermine his father, King David. He stood by the city gate, intercepting those who came to seek justice from the king, and manipulated them with promises of better rulings if he were in charge. This act of deceit was driven by his desire for recognition and authority. Many marriages have failed as a result of a spouse feigning an illness to get the attention of their spouse. This is a terrible habit that could result in permanent body damage and marital failure .  Some people are in debt because of uncontrolled spending because of the desire to be noticed on social media . This is a major destroyer of marriages and it is vanity .

Absalom's vanity is further illustrated in 2 Samuel 14:25-26, where it describes his striking appearance and his long hair, which he cut once a year and weighed because of its impressive weight. His focus on his physical appearance and the adulation it garnered fed his narcissism and led him to prioritize self-glorification over genuine leadership.

Ultimately, Absalom's excessive need for attention culminated in his rebellion against David, resulting in a tragic civil war (2 Samuel 18:6-17). His untimely death, caught by his hair in a tree and subsequently killed, symbolizes the destructive end of his vanity and ambition.

Proverbs 16:18 warns, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." Absalom's story serves as a cautionary tale about the perils of excessive attention-seeking, which can lead to moral decay, relational strife, and personal ruin.

Prayer: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my sins I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to be humble . Amen
