DEFENDER OF THE AFFLICTED AND OPPRESSED.

The stronghold of the enemy over your family shall be broken because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional: DEFENDER OF THE AFFLICTED AND OPPRESSED.

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Luke 18:7 "And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? "

Psalms 35:10 "All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?"

God is often portrayed in the Bible as the deliverer of the oppressed and afflicted, demonstrating His compassion, justice, and power. Throughout Scripture, He intervenes on behalf of those who suffer, providing hope and liberation.

One of the most profound examples is found in Exodus, where God hears the cries of the Israelites enslaved in Egypt. He tells Moses, "I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering" (Exodus 3:7, NIV). God’s deliverance through the plagues and the parting of the Red Sea showcases His power to rescue His people from oppression.

In the Psalms, we see a recurring theme of God as a refuge for the downtrodden. Psalm 9:9-10 declares, "The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." This passage emphasizes God’s enduring presence and support for those in distress.

The New Testament also highlights God's concern for the marginalized. Jesus, in Luke 4:18, proclaims, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free." Jesus' ministry embodies God's deliverance, bringing healing and liberation.

God’s role as the deliverer of the oppressed underscores His commitment to justice and compassion, offering a profound source of hope for believers.

In our daily prayers we should always ask for justice from the lord against the oppressors (mention them by name for effectiveness) like the woman in Luke 17;2-8.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome oppression.
