HAVING MEN'S PERSONS IN ADMIRATION BECAUSE OF ADVANTAGE

Your family shall not suffer lack because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional:

HAVING MEN'S PERSONS IN ADMIRATION BECAUSE OF ADVANTAGE

By Michael Benson Ajayi

Psalms 82:2 "How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah."

To better understand this phrase imagine being in a church and you often hear a preacher speak against pilfering in the work place and then requests that the ongoing church buildings donation envelope be sent to a politician well known for stealing public funds to make donations. In such churches ,the governing rules do not apply to these persons as long as they keep making donations. This is a major reason behind the destruction of the moral fabric of society (Isaiah 1:22-23). These persons are described in Jude 1:16 "These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage."

Another example is that found in  James 2:2-4 NLT

[2] For example, suppose someone comes into your meeting dressed in fancy clothes and expensive jewelry, and another comes in who is poor and dressed in dirty clothes. [3] If you give special attention and a good seat to the rich person, but you say to the poor one, “You can stand over there, or else sit on the floor”—well, [4] doesn’t this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives?

The phrase "having men's persons in admiration because of advantage" refers to showing favoritism based on someone's status or wealth. The Bible warns against this kind of partiality, emphasizing fairness and impartiality. In James 2:1-4, believers are admonished not to show favoritism: "My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism... But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers" (NIV). This passage highlights that treating people differently based on their social status is unjust and against God's principles.

The Bible teaches that all people are equal before God. Galatians 3:28 declares, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (NIV). This unity in Christ means that no one should be valued more highly than another based on external factors.

Proverbs 28:21 warns, "To show partiality is not good—yet a person will do wrong for a piece of bread" (NIV). This verse suggests that favoritism often leads to injustice and wrongdoing. Instead, the Bible encourages treating everyone with love and fairness, reflecting God's character and justice.

Prayer: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to preach the gospel.
