THE CONSEQUENCES OF SELECTING LEADERS WITHOUT GOD'S CONSENT

The plans of the wicked against you shall not succeed because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good - Life Devotional:

THE CONSEQUENCES OF SELECTING LEADERS WITHOUT GOD'S CONSENT

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

1 Kings 1:17-18 "And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not:"

God's choice for leadership after king David's rule was his son Solomon but Adonijah took over power through bribery without the lord's consent .

This scripture is proof that not all leadership are of God .

In Hosea 8:4, NIV Bible God declares, “They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval.”  This verse highlights the dangers of choosing leaders without seeking God’s guidance. Throughout the Bible, the importance of divine direction in leadership selection is emphasized. When Israel chose leaders without consulting God, it led to disastrous consequences, including idolatry, corruption, insecurity and eventual downfall.

In 1 Samuel 8, the Israelites demanded a king to be like other nations, rejecting God as their true King. God warned them through Samuel that this choice would bring heavy burdens—oppression, wars, poverty and loss of freedom (1 Samuel 8:10-18). Despite the warning, they insisted, and Saul was chosen. Saul’s reign, marked by disobedience and insecurity, eventually led to his rejection by God (1 Samuel 15:26).

The lesson is clear: choosing leaders without God’s guidance leads to spiritual and moral decline. Proverbs 3:5-6 advises us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not to rely on our own understanding. When we neglect to seek God’s will in leadership decisions, we risk following human desires that lead to destruction. True wisdom lies in submitting to God’s authority and seeking His guidance in all decisions, especially in leadership.

In your daily prayers we ask God to save us from the temptation of bribery and for wisdom to make the right choice for leadership for the success of our businesses, organizations, and community. We should not be sentimental about it so that we can be properly led by the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power for righteous leadership.
