Good -Life Devotional:

GUARANTEEING FOOD SECURITY AT THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEVEL.

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

**Guaranteeing Food Security: Lessons from King Solomon**

Proverbs 6:30 "Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;"

This verse of scripture underscores the relationship between insecurity and poverty. Criminality is a buyproduct of poverty .if we stop hunger and poverty , there would be a drastic reduction in criminality in the society. The need for food security at the local government level cannot be overemphasized.

King Solomon, renowned for his wisdom, offers a timeless model for ensuring food security at the local government level. Solomon's reign was marked by prosperity and abundance, reflecting his commitment to wise governance. Proverbs 21:20 NIV Bible says, "The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down." Solomon's wisdom emphasizes the importance of foresight and planning in resource management.

To guarantee food security, local governments should emulate Solomon's approach by investing in sustainable agricultural practices and infrastructure. Solomon recognized the need for storage, as seen in 1 Kings 4:22-28, where he ensured provisions were abundant and well-managed. This highlights the importance of creating efficient food storage and distribution systems to prevent waste and ensure consistent supply.

Additionally, Solomon's governance was marked by equitable distribution, ensuring that all his people had enough to eat (1 Kings 4:25). Local governments can learn from this by implementing policies that prioritize access to food for all, especially the vulnerable.

By adopting Solomon's principles of wise planning, investment in infrastructure, and equitable distribution, local governments can build resilient food systems that safeguard against shortages and ensure the well-being of their communities.

Each ward should have a tractor , easy access to fertilizers with agricultural workers and mechanised harvesters and storage facility . The security of farmers should be a combination of a very robust local armed vigilantees working with the police and military . They should be equipped with satellite and drone technology with night vision capability. Sensory devices should be employed as an early warning system to fight against criminals in the farms

There is power in numbers.    A large number of unemployed youths should be employed to secure our commuties  day and night . Security is a collective responsibility.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome poverty.
