CONCLUSION: KINGDOM ETHICS OVER EMPIRE POWER

Doors are being opened for you in relevant places because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional: IMPERIALISM AND NEO-COLONIALISM : A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE (PART 2)

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

3. DIGNITY OF ALL PEOPLES

Every person is made in God's image (Genesis 1:27), and this includes every ethnicity, culture, and nation.

Acts 17:26: "From one man He made every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth."

No nation or culture is inherently superior; therefore, the mindset behind colonial domination contradicts biblical anthropology.

4. JESUS’ MODEL OF POWER

Jesus rejected worldly power and conquest. His kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36), and He came not to be served but to serve (Mark 10:45).

Philippians 2:6-8: Jesus, though divine, humbled Himself.

Luke 4:18-19: His mission was to proclaim good news to the poor and freedom for the oppressed.

Christian mission, therefore, must never mirror imperialistic attitudes, but follow Christ’s humility, self-giving, and respect for local cultures.

5. THE EARLY CHURCH AND CULTURAL RESPECT

Paul and the apostles preached Christ while respecting cultural boundaries (Acts 17:22–31). Conversion to Christ didn’t require adoption of Roman or Jewish culture.

This stands in contrast to the cultural imperialism that often accompanied colonial missions—where Christianity was wrongly fused with Western dominance.

6. STEWARDSHIP, NOT EXPLOITATION

Genesis 1:28; 2:15: Humanity is called to steward the earth, not to exploit it for selfish gain.

Micah 6:8: "What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

Neo-colonial structures that extract wealth from poor nations while giving little in return violate this principle.

CONCLUSION: KINGDOM ETHICS OVER EMPIRE POWER

Imperialism and neo-colonialism stand in contrast to the ethics of God’s kingdom: justice, humility, service, and the valuing of all people. Christians are called to resist systems of oppression, support the liberation of the marginalized, and embody the self-sacrificial love of Christ in every sphere—including global economics and politics.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and destruction of structures of political oppression and exploitation in our countries .

PRAYER; Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome oppression.
