Good -Life Devotional: WHISPERING DURING PREACHING AND IT'S CONSEQUENCES
Romans 1:29, which says (Amplified Bible):
"...they were filled (permeated, saturated) with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice and mean-spiritedness. They are gossips (spreading rumors),"
Whispering during preaching — especially if it distracts or disrupts the Word of God being delivered — can be connected to strife, deceit, malice, and gossip (depending on the intent).
While whispering may seem small, spiritually, it can be an expression of a deeper disrespect for God's Word.
Here are consequences and judgment of such behavior, biblically:
1. IT SHOWS CONTEMPT FOR GOD'S WORD
Proverbs 13:13 (AMP)
"Whoever despises the word and counsel [of God] brings destruction upon himself, but he who reverently fears and respects the commandment [of God] will be rewarded."
Whispering while the Word is being preached shows a light, casual attitude toward the sacredness of the moment. This contempt can bring personal destruction.
2. IT SOWS DISCORD, WHICH GOD HATES
Proverbs 6:16–19 (AMP)
"These six things the Lord hates; indeed, seven are repulsive to Him: [...] A false witness who breathes out lies [even half-truths], and one who spreads discord (rumors) among brothers."
Whispering and distracting others can cause division, misunderstanding, or pull someone else's attention away from God's voice. This is detestable to God.
3. IT HINDERS FAITH COMING BY HEARING
Romans 10:17 (AMP)
"So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ."
If people are distracted by whispers, they miss the hearing that feeds faith. Disrupting that process could be seen as spiritually sabotaging another person's faith growth.
4. IT INVITES GOD'S DISCIPLINE
Hebrews 12:25 (AMP)
"See to it that you do not refuse to listen to Him who is speaking [now]. For if those [sons of Israel] did not escape when they refused to listen to him who warned them on earth [revealing God's will], how much less will we escape if we turn our backs on Him who warns from heaven?"
If we don't respect the Word when it is being delivered, discipline — either spiritually, emotionally, or circumstantially — can come.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and a learning spirit open to correction .
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome witchcraft.
