SETTING SPIRITUAL GOALS FOR A CHILD’S DEVELOPMENT IN CHRIST

What was meant to pull you down will become a ladder for your promotion because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional:

SETTING SPIRITUAL GOALS FOR A CHILD’S DEVELOPMENT IN CHRIST

I started preaching at 18 while in my year in the secondary school at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School Ojo , Lagos State in 1988. My spiritual Father Bishop  Hartford Anayo Illoputaife taught us about the importance of setting spiritual goals for spiritual growth. This has stuck with me till date .

Spiritual growth in children doesn't happen by accident; it requires intentional guidance rooted in Scripture and modeled by parents and mentors. One of the most powerful biblical examples of generational faith is found in 2 Timothy 1:5 (AMP), where Paul writes, “I remember your sincere and unqualified faith [the surrendering of your entire self to God in Christ with confident trust in His power, wisdom, and goodness], a faith which first lived in the heart of your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am confident that it is in you as well.” This verse reminds us that spiritual legacy is both taught and caught.

Setting spiritual goals for a child's development begins with cultivating an environment where faith is not only spoken about but demonstrated daily. Start with foundational goals: teaching children to pray, read the Bible, and understand who Jesus is. As they grow, encourage deeper disciplines like Scripture memorization, acts of service, and learning to discern God’s voice.

Set goals that are age-appropriate, attainable, and Christ-centered. For example, a goal for a young child may be to memorize Psalm 23, while an older child may commit to reading a Gospel or serving regularly in church. Celebrate progress, not perfection.

Ultimately, the goal is not just behavior modification, but heart transformation—a growing relationship with Jesus. Just as Timothy’s faith was nurtured by faithful women in his life, so too can children today grow strong in the Lord through intentional, prayerful spiritual goal-setting and loving discipleship.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and stronger family bonds .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to heal broken homes .
