Good -Life Devotional: MONEY LAUNDERING ;A POTENT DESTROYER OF THE CHURCH AND NATION ( PART 3)
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
A preacher was accused of using fake church crusades overseas to launder money for a former minister of Petroleum in Nigeria. Another was accused of using his private jet to carry money out of the country . Digital currencies are being used to transfer money in and out of Nigeria in money laundering schemes .
Here are some of the damaging effects of these schemes to the church and nation .
5 .DAMAGED REPUTATION
Effect: Nations known for laundering attract global sanctions and lose trust in international relations.
Verse: “A good name is more desirable than great riches.” – Proverbs 22:1 (AMP)
Insight: A nation’s good name can be lost through corruption, affecting trade and diplomacy.
6. POVERTY AND INEQUALITY
Effect: Corruption through laundering diverts resources from the poor to the wealthy elite.
Verse: “Woe to those who make unjust laws… to deprive the poor of their rights.” – Isaiah 10:1-2 (AMP)
Insight: Economic injustice provokes God's judgment and damages national harmony.
7. MORAL CORRUPTION
Effect: Normalizing illegal wealth undermines national ethics and values.
Verse: “For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil.” – 1 Timothy 6:10 (AMP)
Insight: Greed and dishonest gain corrupt the soul of a nation.
8. POLITICAL INSTABILITY
Effect: Illicit financial power undermines fair elections and governance.
Verse: “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” – Proverbs 29:2 (AMP)
Insight: Money laundering can elevate corrupt leaders, leading to national suffering.
9. WEAK FINANCIAL SYSTEMS
Effect: It leads to distorted credit systems, harming banks and investors.
Verse: “Better is a little with righteousness than great income with injustice.” – Proverbs 16:8 (AMP)
Insight: God favors clean wealth over abundance gained through corruption.
10. DIVINE JUDGMENT
Effect: Nations that allow sin and injustice face God's disfavor.
Verse: “Righteousness [moral and spiritual integrity] exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” – Proverbs 14:34 (AMP)
Insight: Continued tolerance of laundering and corruption invites God’s judgment on a nation.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and good governance.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome greed.
