Your tears of sorrow shall become tears of joy because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.
Good-Life Devotional: DIVINE AUTHORITY DELEGATED
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Divine authority delegated by God to His representatives is a vital principle of biblical governance. In John 20:23 (AMP), Jesus tells His disciples, "If you forgive the sins of anyone, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of anyone, they are retained." Similarly, Matthew 18:18-19 affirms the power of binding and loosing on earth in agreement with heaven. This authority, however, is not arbitrary but exercised under the direction of the Holy Spirit to uphold righteousness and order.
A practical example is seen in 1 Corinthians 5:1–6, where Paul instructs the church to discipline a man involved in gross sexual immorality. The goal was not condemnation but restoration through godly sorrow. Paul later refers to restoration in 2 Corinthians 2:6–10, urging the church to forgive and comfort the repentant man, reaffirming love.
In Acts 5, the judgment of Ananias and Sapphira demonstrates the seriousness of lying to the Holy Spirit. Peter, operating under divine authority, declared God's judgment, leading to holy fear among the believers.
This authority is not merely ecclesiastical but divine, meant to preserve holiness in the community. It is confirmed by supernatural backing, as seen in 1 Samuel 12:17–19, where Samuel called down thunder and rain to validate God’s displeasure at Israel’s rejection of divine rule.
Therefore, delegated authority serves as God's instrument to maintain order, correct wrongdoing, and promote repentance, always under the anointing and direction of the Holy Spirit.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and righteous church leadership for good governance in our nation .
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power heal nations.
