CORRUPTION IS THE PRODUCT OF SELFISHNESS AND SELF-CENTREDNESS

Selfishness is a lack of love and consideration for the needs of others. It is an inward focus that disregards others’ well-being for personal gain. In Genesis 4:9, Cain’s defiant question, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” reflects the heart of selfishness—disinterest in others’ welfare.

   Selfishness is promoted even by those who should lead in righteousness. Ezekiel 33:8, 18, 24, 32 warns of selfish leaders who fail to warn others or live righteously, causing the people to suffer. Many selfish pastors preach for personal gain, not for the salvation of souls, making the Lord’s work suffer (Philippians 2:21).

    This self-centered attitude leads to poverty. Proverbs 11:24 says, “There is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty.” Proverbs 13:7 and 28:27 echo the same truth—stinginess results in lack.

    Selfishness lies at the root of most of the world’s evils—wars, hunger, oppression, and misery. It produces bad fruits, as seen in the lives of Eli’s sons (1 Samuel 2:22–25; 3:13), whose selfish indulgence led to their judgment.

    Yet selfishness never satisfies. Job 9:4, Job 27:8, Psalm 106:15, Proverbs 27:20, and Ecclesiastes 2:10–11; 1:8 all testify that the selfish man is never content. He gains but is empty, hoards but is poor in spirit.

    True fulfillment comes from love, sacrifice, and godly service. Only when selfishness dies can righteousness, peace, and joy truly live.

  In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and a selfless heart towards others .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome corruption.
