THE EASTER STORY (PART 2)
WHY JESUS' CHRIST, GOD, HAD TO COME IN HUMAN FORM TO SAVE HUMANITY
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
3. THE NECESSITY OF THE INCARNATION
Jesus’ incarnation fulfilled God’s promise of salvation. The Word becoming flesh allowed Him to live as a human, experience human weakness, and become the perfect sacrifice for sin.
The Bible says : “And the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind,] who is full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, AMP)
4. ONLY A SINLESS SACRIFICE COULD ATONE FOR SIN
Animal sacrifices under the Old Testament were insufficient to take away sin permanently. Jesus’ perfect life qualified Him to be the ultimate sacrifice.
The Bible says “For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. … we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” (Hebrews 10:4, 10, AMP)
5. TO DEFEAT DEATH AND RESTORE LIFE
Sin brought death into the world, and only Jesus could defeat death by rising again. His resurrection secured eternal life for believers.
The Bible says
“Since [therefore these His] children share in flesh and blood [the physical nature of mankind], He Himself [in a similar manner] also shared in the same [physical nature, but without sin], so that through [experiencing] death He might make powerless (ineffective, impotent) him who had the power of death—that is, the devil.” (Hebrews 2:14, AMP)
6. GOD’S LOVE COMPELLED HIM TO COME
The ultimate reason for the incarnation is God’s love for humanity. He desired to save us and restore us to a relationship with Him.
The Bible says “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, AMP)
In summary, Jesus Christ had to come in human form because only He could meet the divine requirements for justice and mercy. His incarnation, death, and resurrection accomplished what humanity could not achieve on its own—reconciliation with God. By becoming fully human while remaining fully God, Jesus bridged the gap between a holy God and sinful humanity, offering salvation to all who believe in Him.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and boldness to preach the gospel.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome temptation.
