 3. APOLOGETIC EXPLANATION: The Two Natures of Christ

The doctrine of the Hypostatic Union explains that Jesus is fully God and fully man, united in one person. This means:

   As God, Jesus shares the divine nature with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

   As man, Jesus possesses a human nature, including a human will and mind, which naturally would pray to God the Father.

   So, when Jesus prays, He is doing so from His human nature, not because He is a lesser god or separate deity.

 Hebrews 5:7 (AMP): “In the days of His earthly life, Jesus offered up both specific petitions and urgent supplications…”

This shows His authentic human experience.

4. TRINITARIAN THEOLOGY: NOT MODALISM, NOT POLYTHEISM

Christianity teaches one God in three persons:

Father – the source and sustainer

Son – the eternal Word made flesh

Holy Spirit – the presence and power of God active in the world

Jesus praying to the Father is intra-Trinitarian communication, not self-talk. It reflects distinct personhood within the Trinity, not division of being. Humans also manifest this tendency in the communication between our spirits with our souls and bodies , yet we are one person. As you read this now , there is a voice speaking inside you despite the fact that your physical mouth is shut . Who or what is that person ? Is he or she different from the physical person we see of you. ?

5. EARLY CHURCH THOUGHT:

Athanasius (4th century) emphasized that Jesus is "God from God" yet "for our sake became man."

The Council of Chalcedon (451 AD) clarified that Christ is one person in two natures—divine and human—without confusion or separation.

  In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and awareness of the Holy Spirit in us .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to preach the gospel with signs and wonders following.
