Good-Life Devotional: MONEY LAUNDERING: A POTENT DESTROYER OF THE CHURCH AND NATION ( PART 1)
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Money laundering is the illegal process of making large amounts of money generated by a criminal activity—such as drug trafficking, crude oil thefts and export , corruption, or fraud—appear to be earned legitimately. In simple terms, it's how "dirty" money is cleaned to look "clean."
The process typically happens in three main stages:
PLACEMENT: Introducing the illegal money into the financial system (e.g., depositing cash into banks, using it to buy assets).
LAYERING: Moving the money around to make it harder to trace (e.g., wire transfers, shell companies, offshore accounts).
INTEGRATION: Reintroducing the "cleaned" money into the economy as if it came from a legal source (e.g., investments, businesses, real estate).
Money laundering is a serious crime in most countries and is often tied to organized crime and terrorism financing.
Here are some effects of money laundering on a nation, with Bible verses that align spiritually or morally with the impact of these effects:
1. ECONOMIC INSTABILITY
Effect: Money laundering distorts economic data, weakens financial institutions, and deters honest investment.
Verse: “Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight.” – Proverbs 11:1 (AMP)
Insight: God values economic honesty and integrity. Money laundering undermines this, causing national instability and poverty amongst Christians .
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and deliverance from greed .
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome greed.
