Good -Life Devotional: DELAYED JUSTICE AND THE RISE OF CRIMINALITY
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
The church of the 80's pursued after righteousness and the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Holiness was at the core of its existence until man -made church growth formula was introduced from America. This meant the church was to stop the chastisement of criminal elements in our churches in order to record large membership and more money for the pastors . This was what gave birth to the transactional gospel being preached by many preachers in Africa especially Nigeria today . That preaching says God is okay with our sins as long as we keep giving money ( sowing seeds) to our preachers . This is an abomination against Jesus Christ and he will punish those who promote such evil in society
The bible says in Job 15:34
"For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery."
The transactional gospel is the root of the failure of the judiciary system in Nigeria. Very influential preachers control the judiciary and frustrate the fight against corruption in the society through their so -called sons and daughters in the judiciary.
When justice is delayed, wrongdoing multiplies. Ecclesiastes 8:11 observes, "Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the hearts of the sons of men are fully set to do evil." This profound truth highlights how procrastination in addressing wrongdoing emboldens others to commit similar acts, creating a culture of lawlessness.
The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 5:11-12 provides a similar admonition to the church regarding discipline within the community of believers. He warns, "You are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?" This passage underscores the responsibility of leaders and individuals to address sin promptly and firmly, especially within the Christian community.
Neglecting swift action against wrongdoing erodes the moral fabric of society. As the Bible teaches, unchecked sin spreads like leaven (1 Corinthians 5:6). Therefore, timely justice not only deters crime but also preserves righteousness. Let us strive for prompt accountability, ensuring that evil does not thrive unchecked.
In our daily prayers we should seek deliverance from false preachers and an end to the transactional gospel in our country.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome temptation.
