Good -Life Devotional: THE NECESSITY OF RESILIENCE IN LIVING IN A CORRUPT SYSTEM
Psalms 37:37-38
" Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off."
Resilience is the ability to withstand, adapt, and thrive in the face of adversity, and it is essential for living righteously in a corrupt system. The Bible provides compelling examples of resilience through the lives of Daniel and Isaac. Both men faced significant challenges rooted in unjust and corrupt circumstances, yet their unwavering faith and determination allowed them to overcome these obstacles.
In Daniel 6:12-24, Daniel’s resilience shines in his response to the decree issued by King Darius. This law, manipulated into existence by envious officials, forbade prayer to anyone except the king for thirty days. Despite the decree, Daniel continued his practice of praying to God three times a day, fully aware of the consequences. When he was thrown into the lions' den, his faith and trust in God’s justice delivered him. The corrupt system that sought to destroy him was ultimately overturned as the very officials who accused him faced the fate they had plotted for him. Daniel’s resilience exemplifies the importance of remaining steadfast in righteousness, trusting that God will vindicate the faithful in His time.
Similarly, Genesis 26:1-23 recounts Isaac’s resilience during a time of famine and conflict. God instructed Isaac to stay in Gerar, where he faced opposition from the Philistines. They repeatedly filled his wells with dirt, cutting off his water supply. Each time, Isaac responded with patience and persistence, digging new wells instead of retaliating. His resilience allowed him to thrive in a hostile environment. God’s promise of blessing and provision sustained him, and Isaac’s refusal to succumb to bitterness or aggression ultimately led to peace and prosperity.
Both accounts highlight that resilience in a corrupt system requires unwavering faith in God, a commitment to righteousness, and the ability to persevere despite opposition. Daniel and Isaac trusted God’s sovereignty and refused to compromise their integrity, demonstrating that resilience is essential not only for survival but also for bringing about God’s purposes in a broken world.
In our daily prayers we should seek for inner strength to overcome trials and temptation and for a healthy appetite for God's word.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome the enemy.
