HOW TO OVERCOME SPIRITUAL COMPLACENCY:

(PART 1)

Amos 6:1,7,14

[1]Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

[7]Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

[14]But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.'

  From the above scripture we can see that spiritual laziness or complacency opens the doors to spiritual and physical bondage .

  It results in poverty and insecurity in marriages and relationships that could lead to marital failure . 

    Spiritual complacency, which refers to a state of self-satisfaction and lack of vigilance in one's relationship with God, is addressed throughout the Bible as a dangerous condition. It often leads to spiritual decline, disobedience, and separation from God. Below are effects of spiritual complacency :

1. LOSS OF PASSION FOR GOD

Complacency causes believers to lose their zeal and become indifferent to their faith, leading to spiritual stagnation.

The bible says in 

Revelation 3:15-16 (AMP):

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold (invigorating, refreshing) nor hot (healing, therapeutic); I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm [spiritually useless], and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth [rejecting you with disgust].”

2. LACK OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH

When complacent, believers stop pursuing God’s Word and maturing in their faith. The bible says in 

Hebrews 5:12-14 (AMP):

“For though by this time you ought to be teachers [because of the time you have had to learn these truths], you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God’s word [from the beginning], and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food. For everyone who lives on milk is doctrinally inexperienced and unskilled in the word of righteousness [since he is a spiritual infant].”

3. RISK OF DIVINE JUDGMENT

God warns that spiritual complacency may provoke His judgment or discipline. The bible says in 

Zephaniah 1:12 (AMP):

“It will come about at that time that I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish the men who [like stagnant water] are stagnant in spirit, who say in their hearts, ‘The Lord will not do good, nor will He do evil.’”

The bible also says in 

Proverbs 1:32 (AMP):

“For the turning away of the naive will kill them, and the careless ease of [self-righteous] fools will destroy them.”

 Most countries in Europe and America that were once known for their Christian values are suffering the effect of complacency as they under invasion by extremist groups that has resulted in increase in the insecurity of these once peaceful regions of the world. It is time to pray for a revival.

 In our daily prayers we should seek for a healthy appetite for God's word and revival of the zeal for worship .

PRAYER : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome sin .
