You shall not be abandoned because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good-Life Devotional: THE CHURCH'S REFUSAL TO FIGHT CORRUPTION: A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Ezekiel 14:13,21

[13]Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

21 For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast? "

The church's refusal to confront corruption has profound spiritual and societal implications, as highlighted in Ezekiel 14:14–23. Here, God warns that even the righteousness of individuals like Noah, Daniel, and Job cannot save a corrupt nation; their righteousness would only save themselves. This passage underscores the communal responsibility to uphold godly standards. When the church fails to act against corruption, it risks God's judgment, as collective iniquity brings consequences to both the guilty and the complacent. There are Christians severely suffering in corrupt war-torn countries . Corruption kills therefore , it should be fought against with all our might .

In the New Testament, the call for moral accountability is clear. James 4:17 states, "So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin" (AMP). This implicates the church in passive complicity when it chooses silence over action. Furthermore, Matthew 5:13 warns that if salt loses its saltiness, it is worthless, symbolizing the church’s role in preserving societal integrity.

Corruption flourishes when the church neglects its prophetic mandate to speak truth to power. Romans 12:2 exhorts believers to resist conforming to worldly patterns, which includes the normalization of corruption. By failing to challenge injustice, the church loses credibility and hinders its witness, ultimately allowing moral decay to permeate society unchecked.

In our daily prayers we should seek for a healthy appetite for God's word and zeal to fight corruption wherever it is found .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome the enemy.
