ONLY AN ADULTEROUS GENERATION SEEKS FOR SIGNS

    In Matthew 12:39, Jesus declares, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet” (AMP). Here, the term adulterous translates from the Greek word μοιχαλίς (moichalis), which literally refers to marital unfaithfulness but metaphorically describes spiritual infidelity or idolatry. In this context, Jesus rebukes the Jewish leaders and people for their spiritual betrayal of God by demanding miraculous signs as proof of His authority.

The demand for signs reflects a heart unwilling to trust or obey God without visible evidence. This mirrors the Israelites in the wilderness, who repeatedly doubted God despite His miraculous provision (Exodus 17:7). Their desire for signs revealed a lack of faith and an unwillingness to align with God's covenant. It is the reason why many Christians in Africa especially Nigeria would rather move from one prayer house in search of signs and wonders instead of developing a personal relationship with God through the revelation of his word and prayer . 

  This behaviour of moving from place to place in search of signs and wonders is the reason behind the increase in marital infidelity and difficulties in getting married.

   If you are not accountable to the pastor God assigned to you, then you cannot be trusted in a relationship. The bible says  Jeremiah 3:15 'And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.,'

Jesus points to the "sign of Jonah," referring to His death, burial, and resurrection after three days (Matthew 12:40). This ultimate sign demonstrates God's power and faithfulness. Faith, however, must rest not on constant external proofs trust in God's Word. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Seeking signs exposes a lack of such conviction, symbolizing spiritual adultery.

  In our daily prayers we should seek for a healthy appetite for God's word and the spirit of wisdom and revelation for the strengthening of our faith in God's word. 

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome satanic manipulations .
