THE WISDOM FROM HEAVEN: BEARING THE FRUITS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

   True wisdom is a hallmark of Christian maturity, characterized by purity, peace, and righteousness. James 3:13-18 highlights the contrast between earthly and heavenly wisdom. James challenges believers: “Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good conduct his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom” (v. 13, AMP). Heavenly wisdom is not self-serving but manifests in a life devoted to peace and humility.

Worldly wisdom, on the other hand, is described as “earthly, unspiritual, and demonic” (v. 15). It thrives on envy, strife, and selfish ambition, ultimately leading to disorder and evil practices. A Christian who compromises integrity for personal gain may claim intelligence, but such behavior is incompatible with godly wisdom. Proverbs 10:9 declares, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.”

In contrast, the wisdom from above is “pure, then peace-loving, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, and sincere” (James 3:17). Such wisdom aligns with Christ’s teachings, cultivating the fruits of righteousness. As Philippians 1:11 exhorts, we are to be “filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

A believer cannot walk in corruption and claim wisdom because true wisdom reflects God’s nature. To embody heavenly wisdom, Christians must pursue integrity, avoid corruption, and remain rooted in God’s Word, becoming peacemakers who sow seeds of righteousness (James 3:18). In doing so, their lives will bear testimony to the transforming power of Christ.

  In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and wisdom to work uprightly in a corrupt world.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and wisdom for excellence.
