THE NEED TO ESCALATE: EXPOSING CORRUPTION THAT THRIVES IN SECRECY
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Corruption flourishes in the shadows, where accountability is absent. As believers, we are called to confront wrongdoing, not passively accept it. Scripture provides numerous examples of individuals who escalated issues to address corruption and injustice.
In Nehemiah 5:1–4, the Jewish people cry out against their leaders who exploited them with exorbitant taxes and forced labor. Nehemiah, upon hearing their plight, openly rebukes the leaders and demands reform. Similarly, in Acts 6:1–3, the early church faced complaints about the unfair distribution of food. The apostles acted decisively, appointing deacons to ensure equity and transparency, demonstrating the need to address systemic issues openly.
Paul also escalated issues when necessary. In Galatians 2:12–14, he publicly confronted Peter for his hypocrisy in withdrawing from Gentiles under pressure from Jewish leaders, showing that even respected leaders must be held accountable.
Is there something no properly being done as a result of corruption in your community? God commands Christians to expose it . Keeping silence gives the enemy the advantage . Use your social media handle to talk about , don't be intimidated by fear. God is on your side and will fight for the righteous , he promises in Psalms 34:21 "Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate."
Romans 6:1–2 reminds us that we must not tolerate sin, either in ourselves or in our communities. To do so perpetuates moral decay. As Ephesians 5:11 says, “Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness but instead expose them.”
Escalation is not about conflict but restoration. By shedding light on hidden wrongs, we uphold justice and integrity, honoring God’s call to righteousness.
In our daily prayers we should seek a church with zero tolerance for corruption and boldness to fight it .
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome temptation.
